We’re getting lots of questions about Bridging Visa B (BVB) processing times, especially from clients with upcoming travel plans — so here’s a quick, honest update.
Home Affairs is currently carrying a very large backlog across most visa categories, and unfortunately BVBs are not immune. While BVBs can be granted quickly, we’re increasingly seeing:
- Processing times stretching longer than expected
- Decisions coming close to (or after) intended travel dates
- In some cases, travel plans needing to be adjusted
If you are planning to travel please remember that
- A Bridging Visa A does not allow travel
- You must have the BVB granted before you leave Australia
- Lodging early is crucial — but even then, grant before travel is not guaranteed
We strongly recommend that you apply as early as possible, avoiding non-refundable flights until the BVB is granted and let us know immediately if travel dates change
This isn’t a reflection on your application — it’s simply a capacity issue at Home Affairs right now. We’re actively monitoring applications and following up where appropriate, but timing is unfortunately not always in anyone’s control.
If you’re thinking about travel, or already have dates booked, please reach out early so we can talk through the best strategy and risks.
