Core Skilled Occupation List (CSOL) and Skills in Demand (SID) update.
Did you know that we are getting close to Christmas/New Year holidays and will soon be off on holidays enjoying ourselves ?. Well, the staff at Immigration HQ in Canberra want to go on holidays earlier than the rest of us and have left us with more work to do. Why do we say this, because the government has today announced the release of the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) which updates the current list relevant to the temporary skilled migration program.
The CSOL will apply to the core skills stream of the new Skills in Demand (SID) visa, which we believe will replace the 482 visa on 7 December 2024. The CSOL will also apply the direct entry stream of the residence visa subclass 186 (Employer Nomination Scheme). So, yes, you have realised the government has given us 3 days to get our head around the new occupation list as well as understand which occupations will no longer be able to apply for the 482 visa and the 186 direct entry, we have linked in the new occupation list:-

In order to view the occupations that will no longer be approved under the new Skills in Demand Visa, you can filter the attached spreadsheet to show the current Short Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL), Medium to Long Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) and Regional Occupation List (ROL) at column B and then select ‘N’ (no) for column E (On Core Skilled Occupation List).
In order to view the new occupations that will be approved for the Skills in Demand Visa, select ‘CSOL’ for column B (and making sure both Y and N are selected for column E).
SID Visa – more information will shortly be released by the Immigration Department on the new Skills in Demand (SID) visa and the National Innovation Visa (NIV). Still no rest for us as we are not sure what ‘shortly’ means.
Travelling overseas during the Australian Christmas/New Year summer break.
If you are intending on departing Australia to holiday overseas it is timely to check that your Australian visa is valid to avoid being stranded overseas . The travel facility is linked to the visa and it allows the visa holder to re-enter Australia
Likewise, if you or anyone you know currently holds a Bridging Visa A, make sure that they obtain a Bridging Visa B for them to return to Australia.
Christmas Closure
Our office will be closing at midday on Friday 20 December 2024 and we will re-open on Monday 6 January 2025. For any emergencies we will have a small number of staff on call.
