Australia - Labour Market Testing (more countries exempt)
You may be aware that when applying for a 482, sponsors may be required to undertake LMT (Labour Market Testing) as part of the visa process. The good news is that Australia is signatory to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and this means that citizens of the countries listed below are exempt from LMT.
List of signatory countries
- Australia
- Canada
- Japan
- Mexico
- New Zealand
- Singapore
- Vietnam
There are a further 4 countries who look like joining this Agreement this year and they are Brunei Darussalam, Chile, Malaysia, and Peru but this has not yet been ratified.
What does this mean for HR Staff?
Yippeee we hear you say, this means that if you have a candidate who is applying for a 482 visa and they hold a passport from any of the countries listed above, you will not have to undertake LMT.
Should you have any further questions on LMT please contact us. We have telephones and we like to talk.
